Goodyear’s Bulk Trash Pickup Switches to Monthly Service in October 2012
Starting on Oct. 1, 2012, the City of Goodyear’s Sanitation Department will transition its bulk trash pickup to a monthly service instead of collecting bulk items from homes twice a month.
The recommendation to reduce bulk trash pickup days to once a month was approved by City Council in April 2012 and was overwhelmingly supported by Goodyear residents in a citizen survey conducted in October 2011. Data from the citizen survey reflected that 85 percent of residents used bulk trash pickup only once a month and sometimes less. Half of the respondents who said they used bulk trash pickup twice a month supported the reduction to once a month. The transition in service will also save the City more than $300,000 annually in operations costs.
The purpose of the City of Goodyear’s bulk trash collection program is to pickup larger items that do not fit in regular-sized trash cans. Bulk trash items collected by the City of Goodyear include yard waste, furniture, mattresses, appliances and other large household items. All bulk items need to be tied in bundles or placed in boxes and placed on the curb on collection days.
To determine the bulk trash pickup day in various areas throughout the City, residents can click on the
Sanitation Service Day Finder link and enter their house number address to discover which day of the month will be their new bulk trash collection date.
The new bulk trash service does not affect the already established weekly pickup days for regular trash and recycle collection.
