On June 5th, 2024, at 10:36 AM, officers responded to a burglary in progress at a local business. Upon arrival, officers surrounded the business and issued numerous announcements, urging the suspect to exit. Officers even made telephone contact with the suspect, later identified as Brandon Hunter. The situation escalated when Hunter indicated he was suicidal and armed with a knife.
Given the gravity of the situation, the decision was made to call in the Special Assignments Unit (SAU). The SAU and Crisis Negotiator Team (CNT) responded, and efforts to establish communication with the suspect continued. However, communication with Hunter was sporadic and inconsistent.
After several hours, SAU, with assistance from CNT, safely apprehended Hunter. He was taken into custody and immediately given a medical evaluation as a precaution. Following the evaluation, Hunter was booked into Maricopa County Jail on two felony warrants.
This incident highlights the coordinated efforts of multiple units to ensure a safe resolution to a potentially dangerous situation. The Goodyear Police Department remains committed to protecting the community and ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
