Risks Associated with Swimming in Retention Basins
The good news is, our retention basins are working well to handle all of yesterday's rain but it is important to note that because storm water is not treated, any pollutants that get picked up by runoff end up in these basins. Some common storm water pollutants are:
- Pet Waste
- Pesticides/Herbicides
- Fertilizers
- Trash/Litter
- Automotive Oil/Fluids
- Paints/Solvents/Cleaners
Many kids (and adults) may want to play in flooded areas. Please discourage this. Unknown debris and dangers may lay underneath. Keep safe. Be water safe!
Watch for Mosquitoes!
Maricopa County Departments of Public Health and Environmental Services work closely to protect residents of Maricopa County against West Nile Virus (WNV). Environmental Services has the tough job of locating areas where there is a lot of mosquito activity, catching those mosquitoes and then testing them to see if they have the virus. Using such tools as mosquito testing, Environmental Services is the front line in informing residents know where WNV is in the county. (They also respond to all complaints related to green pools, stagnant water, and dead birds.)
If you see mosquitoes in the flood water, call Maricopa County at 602.506.6616 or use the online reporting tools here: http://www.maricopa.gov/wnv/
Changes to Trash/Recycle Collection
Due to Monday's storms, trash/recycle collection will be pushed one day forward - similar to holiday schedule. Trash and recycle container service and bulk waste collection for this week, 9/8/14 to 9/13/14, has shifted to a next day service due to Monday's storms. Monday moves to Tuesday, Tuesday moves to Wednesday, Wednesday moves to Thursday, Thursday moves to Friday and Friday moves to Saturday. Questions? Call 623-932-3010 between 7AM-4PM.
While on the subject of trash collection: please remember to keep your trees trimmed back from the road, and place containers away from obstructions (such as trees ,vehicles etc.). Untrimmed trees may obstruct the hydraulic arm on the truck which has to extend out and then swing up to service containers.

You can also report a problem from your desktop. Bookmark the NEW report a problem page (http://goodyearaz.gov/residents/report-a-problem) for quick reference.
HINT: We've gotten some feedback that the submit button does not complete when using the desktop version and have found the root of the problem! Residents must move the "pin" on the map at the top of the issue page (see screenshot below) to be within the geographic boundaries of Goodyear. It currently defaults outside of our boundaries, which is preventing the problem from submitting. You can either drag the pin to move it or type the address in the very first Address field.
