Hybrid Lifeguard Certification Course
Course Prerequisites: Must be 15 years of age or older
Swim 50 yards continuous with head up
Swim 50 yards continuous with a rescue tube across the chest
Tread water for 1 minute without use of the hands
Retrieve a 10 lb. brick at a depth of 12 feet
*Participants will go through the prerequisite screening at the start of the first class. Those who do not pass the prerequisites after 3 tries will not be able to proceed in the course.

City of Goodyear Jr. Guard Program
The Junior Guard Program is for those between 13 and 14 years old who are interested in becoming a lifeguard in the future. To be a City of Goodyear Jr. Guard for the 2024 season, candidates must register for one of the Jr. Guard courses. During the course, participants will learn the basics of lifeguarding and swim lesson instruction. Upon successful completion of the course, Jr. Guards will receive a shirt, hat, and the opportunity to volunteer at one of the City of Goodyear pools for the summer where they will receive hands-on training with the lifeguards.
Course Prerequisites:
Must be 13 to 14 years old and be able to swim 200 yards in less than 30 minutes
(this is NOT a program that teaches the participant how to swim)
Location: Goodyear Aquatics Center - 420 S. Estrella Parkway
Cost: $35 ($42 NR)
*Free for returning Jr. Guards
Jr. Guard Benefits:
Jr. Guards receive a free shirt and hat.
The hands-on training from the pool staff gives future lifeguards an advantage.
Volunteering at the pool is a great way to keep busy during the summer!

Hybrid Swim Lesson Instructor Course
Must be 16 years of age or older
Those interested in teaching swim lessons must be a certified swim lesson instructor. Participants will learn how to teach developmentally appropriate swimming and water safety skills for individuals from 6 months to adult. This course has both an online and an in-person portion. The online portion must be completed prior to the first in-person class.
