Housed within the Support Services Division, the Telecommunications Division of the Goodyear Police Department provides the vital links and lifeline between citizens in need of emergency services and the officers who respond to provide assistance; they are the First of the First Responders.

Emergency Communications Specialists within the department are highly skilled professionals selected from a large pool of candidates for their exceptional abilities. The Goodyear team answered 121,936 calls in 2019; 35,580 of which were 911 calls, 86,356 were non-emergency calls, and 47,654 calls were dispatched for service. Answering calls for assistance is not the only responsibility of our Communications Specialists, they also:

  • Act as central communication point for all police operations
  • Handle all police radio traffic on over 3 dozen radio channels utilized by the department
  • Maintain records of on-duty police department personnel statuses
  • Link to other local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies
  • Enter and maintain records in local, state and federal databases

When Should I Call 9-1-1 vs. Non-Emergency Number?

  • If there is an emergency occurring RIGHT NOW, Call 911
  • If the concern is not emergent, or you are reporting an event that occurred several hours or days ago, call the non-emergency number 623-932-1220 (This number is also answered 24 hrs. a day)
  • If you accidentally dial 911, please stay on the line and let the call taker know it was an accident. If you hang up, they will call you back and/or send an officer to check on the situation, which occupies vital resources for several minutes.

What should I expect when I call

9-1-1?

  • You will be asked to provide the exact location of the emergency and your phone number
  • The 911 call taker will ask a series of questions to determine the type of response to send, how many responders and whether law enforcement, fire or EMS units are needed.
  • Our emergency call takers can also provide life-saving guidance over the phone before first responders arrive.
  • Help is NOT DELAYED by these questions, while the emergency call taker is helping you on the phone, the dispatchers are able to alert first responders, share the information you are providing and send help to your emergency.

Are you prepared for an emergency?
