VIPS Opportunities
Several Ways to Contribute Your Time
Goodyear Police Department's Volunteer Program began in 2004. As the program has grown, our Volunteer responsibilities have expanded to include a broad range of activities. The following opportunities are available for Volunteers:
Administrative
Our Administrative Volunteers conduct data entry and provide customer service to both the public and internal employees. Some responsibilities include: data entry of traffic citations, composing Excel spreadsheets, filing, assisting with public and/or city of Goodyear events, as well as creative projects such as certificate design, pamphlets, etc.
Citizen Patrol
Our Patrol Volunteers saturate our community in specially marked "Volunteer" vehicles, extending the eyes and ears of the patrolling Police Officers. The uniformed Patrol Volunteers offer a variety of services to include: vacation watch, retail patrol, neighborhood saturation, safety visits at schools, writing parking violations, assisting on accident scenes, completing tow affidavits, as well as other non-arrest assistance within our city.
Event Support
VIPS provide traffic and crowd control presence at city and department events. Some of these activities include: events at Goodyear Ballpark, G.A.I.N., Shop-with-a-Cop, parades, marathons, etc.
Fingerprinting
The Goodyear Police Department offers fingerprinting services for those in need of fingerprint cards for employment and certifications.
Vacation Watch
The City of Goodyear provides vacation watch services to its residents. This assures volunteers and officers on patrol are aware of temporarily vacant properties. A vacation watch consists of regularly checking on a property for damage, entry and/or anything out of the ordinary while a resident is away. Vacation Watch Request Form.
You Are Not Alone (YANA)
This is a free program that provides regular phone calls and home visits to seniors who have limited family or community contacts. Seniors can also call the YANA program for help finding specific services and resources.
