Vice Mayor Laura Kaino was appointed in July 2018, to complete the term of former Councilmember Joanne Osborne, and she was elected in March of 2019.
Ms. Kaino has a deep understanding of civic involvement and city government. She retired from the City of Phoenix after a lengthy career in human resource management, having worked with a variety of city departments including Parks & Recreation, Law, Water Services and the Phoenix Convention Center.
Laura’s initial involvement in Goodyear came through her participation in the Citizen’s Academy and Police Citizen’s Academy. She has also served on the City of Goodyear’s Arts & Culture Commission and the Citizen’s Water Conservation Committee.
Vice Mayor Kaino serves as the Chairperson for Goodyear's Public Safety Retirement Boards, and on the City Council Community Funding Subcommittee and the Boards and Commissions Selection Subcommittee. She also represents the city as the co-chair of the WESTMARC Quality of Life Committee and on the Arizona League of Cities and Towns’ Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Works (TIPW) Policy Committee.
Vice Mayor Kaino is a graduate of Grand Canyon University having earned a Master of Science in Leadership. She did her undergraduate work at Redlands University, finishing with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Management. She is a graduate of Leadership West Class XXIV, a member of the Arizona Water Association and the Three Rivers Historical Society.
Laura and her husband, Lance Kaino, have lived in the west valley since moving to Arizona in 1993. They’ve enjoyed their home in Palm Valley since 2008 and have been long-time members of Skyway Church.
