The city of Goodyear is looking for Goodyear artists to submit drawings or paintings with dimensions no larger than 20 x16. The artwork will be included in a fine arts exhibition with one finalist’s original work selected for inclusion in the 75th Anniversary Time Capsule on November 19, 2021. The finalized work will be purchased by the City and preserved using archival materials until it’s unearthed at the city’s 100-year celebration in 2046. City of Goodyear will have a giclee created of the original work and it will be displayed in city hall for public view.
ELIGIBILITY:
This project is open to artists who work in the mediums of paint and drawing and who reside in the city of Goodyear.
APPLY:
Interested artists shall submit the following application materials no later than October 11, 2021.
SUBMISSION MATERIALS:
1. Typed “Letter of Interest or artist statement,” not to exceed one page, which should describe what they believe makes the city of Goodyear unique. Past experience with the requested medium and any social media handles should be included.
2. Digital image of submission via email
• Do not embed images into PowerPoint
• Submit only high quality JPGs (no GIFs, TIFFs or other formats). Files must be less than 5 MB. Files must be titled with a number indicating the viewing order followed by the artist’s last name. The numbers must correspond to the accompanying annotated Image List. Use “0” in front of single digit numbers. Do not use more than 30 characters, and use only letters, numbers and underscores. Example: 01_Smith.
3. A corresponding, “Annotated Image List” with title, media, dimensions, location, brief description and date of the work

Applications that are incomplete or late will not be accepted.
SELECTION:
The selection committee, representing diverse interests and expertise of the city and community, will convene to review submissions and select artwork for the exhibit.
WINNER:
Artist will be compensated $500.00
Selection criteria include:
▪ Technical skills
▪ Ability to capture unique and significant aspects of the community, in an artistic nature using painting or drawing mediums
▪ Artistic style
A diverse panel of city staff, stakeholders and local experts will select one finalist from the exhibit to contribute a painting or drawing that honors the city, past and future in celebration of the 75th anniversary. Once selected, the original artwork will be preserved in archival materials and included in the time capsule. The city of Goodyear will have a giclee of the original created and the giclee will be exhibited at Goodyear City Hall.
