The city of Goodyear conducts two types of inspections: 

• Existing business inspections are performed by the Fire Department and consist of annual inspections of existing occupancies. These include fire code compliance for low, medium and high risk businesses and permitting for business with high hazards and state licensed facilities. To request to schedule a annual fire inspection please submit a request here.
  
  
• New construction inspections are performed by the Building Safety Division and consists of fire inspections based on approved plans for fire protection systems and features in new construction and tenant improvement construction. To schedule a new business or construction inspection visit, schedule an inspection.

In the event a business is required to maintain an Operational Permit and/or Hazardous Material Permit,   the Business Permit Application can be completed with the annual fire inspection request.  Refer to section four of the application for specific requirements.

The Special Event Permit Application is to be completed when the event promoter and/or vender is performing any activity associated with the following:

• Use and/or sale of fireworks
• Special effects, open burnings, explosives, or other potentially dangerous displays
• Any installation and/or operating of mechanical or amusement rides
• Temporary or portable buildings
• Utilization of equipment and/or outdoor assembly events as covered under section three of the application.

Fire Watches are implemented to insure life safety, as set forth in the fire code, when fire protection systems or related features become compromised, exposed, disabled or,  special events present uncharacteristic hazards.

 Fire watch applications shall be submitted to the Fire Marshal’s office for review and approval.  Fire watch applications should detail the nature of the failure, the time line for repairs and the responsible parties.

Fire code requires a written documentation for emergency monthly light testing and annual power testing.

Testing may be documented on the “Emergency Lighting & Power Test” record form for your business needs.
